To celebrate Mexican Independence Day, my wife and I decided to have Mexican food for dinner. Originally we were thinking about hitting one of the chain Mexican restaurants near us. But decided to go to Sol Mexican restaurant for this special occasion.
We’re familiar with the Sol establishment. We frequent the Playa Vista location and we love their food. Since we want to visit Balboa Island during the day, we decided to have dinner at the Newport location afterward.
The food here didn’t disappoint us. They are just as good the food as in the Playa Vista location. I always have their Mexican street for appetizer. This corn is delicious which’s full of flavor and grill taste.
For the main dishes, my wife had their quesadilla with chicken and I ordered their fish taco and Vampiro. The Taco Vampiro came with double tortilla stuffed with melted cheese, serrano chiles & scallions, with carne asada, guacamole & pico de gallo, chipotle sauce & cotixa. All these ingredients made the taco tasted fantastic. The fish taco was just as good. I devoured both tacos in no time.
During Covid-19, the restaurant has a large out door tent for outside seatings. All waiters wear masks and glove. All guests have to check in outside of the restaurant before been seated. - regis kwong
